Who are you?
Heyy! My name is Charlotte, I am the owner/director of uphoric, a carefully curated collection of epic brands designed to last. I grew up on a farm just outside of Bingara NSW. A true country girl at heart you could say hehe.
What sets your soul on fire?
I am a big thinker. I love envisioning all things cool and creative. I’m also a very passionate person, any topic close to my heart gets me fired up - which hasn’t always worked out for me haha! I feel love very deeply, so when I'm in I'm all in!
I’ve always been ok with my own company, but to me nothing feels better than knowing someone you can be with and share your deepest, darkest secrets with. My soul is always the better for that. Annnnnd conversing with someone so deeply and intensely that neither one of you blink, Woah!
What environmental or conscious traits do you practice?
I am a vegan, so choosing brands for uphoric was a carefully thought out process to ensure uphoric is an eco-conscious, cruelty free boutique with hell good vegan threads! I try my very best to be conscious of materials that are harmful to animals and our environment when buying.
What do you wish you could have told your teenage self?
You are you and that is more than enough darl! xoxoxo
What is something most people don't know about you?
I am actually very sensitive. Handle with care.
What is your proudest achievement outside of work?
Forming genuine connections/friendships with unreal people, accepting myself and being content with the person I am today and also being a vegan.
What are you currently working on?
A cool website for uphoric : ) with a 1% giveback to our animals!
What do you think we are about to see a lot of in your industry?
I HOPE a lot of other stores and designers get inspired to create/stock alternative leathers, jump on the cactus and corn train and connect with nature on a deeper level.
What has a challenge been when establishing your work / business?
As I've said previously, I’m a big thinker so it's been very challenging controlling my thoughts and limiting myself to a certain amount of thoughts per business day so I can function properly, concentrate on one task at a time sort of thing. As well as learning how to balance life and work and stressing less!
What has been your favourite moment so far for uphoric?
Meeting amazing people from all around the world.
Advice for anyone wanting to start in your field.
Fake it til you make it!
What are your core values, and how do they align with your business goals?
I am the kind of person who takes their trolley back to the trolley bay and communicates with passing strangers with a big smile.
I am very mindful of people’s feelings and strive to be the most considerate and empathetic person I can be. When envisioning uphoric, I wanted to create a space where everyone felt welcome and free to be themselves - “a space for you to be you”. It is all about creating a community that everyone can be a part of and feel included. Additionally, stocking only vegan products in uphoric aligns with my personal beliefs/lifestyle.
How do you stay innovative and creative in your business, and what steps do you take to continually improve your products or services?
Being inspired by other stores, actively communicating with fellow business owners and designers. Taking on feedback from local ladies during my start up process was vital- I wanted to get everyone’s opinion on brands I was stocking at uphoric to ensure I was listening to what the Coffs Harbour gal wanted/needed.
What is your favourite book?
The Rules Of Attraction!
What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?
Driving solo from Bingara NSW to Exmouth WA in my Hyundai Elantra haha.
If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?
I really want a Pekin Duck but I’ve heard they’re naughty?!
What do you think is the meaning of life?
I think the meaning of life is to love and lose, having meaningful relationships/encounters, inspiring others and feeling compassion at its rawest.
Before Uphoric, what were you doing?
I was living in Lennox Head and working at the lovely St Agni Store in Byron Bay. After some time, I took a step back from my current lifestyle and focused on my health, went back to my country roots and worked a few different jobs until I was in the position to bring uphoric to life!
What energy would you like people to feel when they enter your store?
Euphoria! And really positive, kind, happy, welcoming energy.
