Helping our immune system with spice.
Fuelling our minds, staying inspired and motivated during this time can be hard without fuelling our body with the essentials to stay healthy. Although this is the perfect time to drink more alcohol, get takeaway, and eat junk, it's essential that we give our body what it needs for our physical and mental health.
Imagine our bodies are a car
For whatever reason you don’t fill up with petrol, would you wonder why all of a sudden you are slowing down on a highway to come to a complete stop? Say you fill this car up with $5, would you expect it to get you on a long journey?
Think about food now
If you are eating processed, packaged food constantly, can you really expect it to take you on a road trip? No. What you put in, is what you get out. I’m sure you know this already, but I hope it acts as a little reminder.
Here are some easy ways to help fill up your tank.
Firstly, if you can, make wholesome meals from scratch. Time-consuming but worth it if you can, this gives your digestive system less work, enabling your body to focus on healing other areas.
Add spice to your life.
Here are a few of my favourites:
-
Ginger: Is good for the circulatory system but also calms the gut for all of those uneasy butterflies you might be experiencing. It also helps with colds, perfect for our immune system.
-
Garlic: Lowers blood pressure and supports our immune system.
-
Turmeric: Wonder spice, it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant healing benefits. A powerful spice.
-
Cinnamon: Has antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties to help us with our immune system.
-
Clove: Helps with our body’s infections and immune system.
Why are most of the herbs above focused on the immune system?
Bad diet and an increase in alcohol consumption all affect the immune system. Pretty much, when our immune system is compromised, we are more likely to get sick as we lack the strength to fight off illness.
Add traditional Balinese drink, Jamu, for a little immune pick-me-up.
It’s a powerful drink, but it does wonders, as it includes spices from above. I like mine best with coconut water to ease into. It is very important to include a touch of black pepper as it aids absorption. Also, please note, turmeric will dye everything, including your fingernails. I currently have yellow everything…

And lastly, stay hydrated, with water.
